Disadvantages (limitations) of the tool
The main disadvantage or limitation of Skype is if you have a slow or bad internet connection. Skype requires the use of the internet and works best when the connection is clear and strong. If it is not, you will run into problems with the software.
Application of the tool in your subject area
For the application of Skype in our subject area, we would like to integrate the software into a lesson about those that are deaf and therefore, cannot speak or hear. It is very challenging for someone that can speak and hear to turn off those senses for an amount of time. Therefore, we would like to challenge our students to live the life of a person with this disability for a lesson. We would take an ordinary group lesson but only allow the students to communicate through Skype. The teacher will be supervising through chat and the students will be working on the computer.
